Allison Peart named 2018 ICAJ most outstanding chairperson

Allison Peart, FCA, FCPA, BSc, chairman of the taxation committee, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica (ICAJ), was named Most Outstanding Chairperson of the Year at the institute’s annual general meeting last week at the Knutsford Court Hotel in Kingston.

Peart is the country managing partner and tax partner at Ernst & Young (Jamaica).

“I am delighted to recognise Allison as the 2018 ICAJ Most Outstanding Chairperson and thank her for her contributions, on behalf of Council and the entire membership.

“Allison’s stellar achievements, contributions and service to the community have earned her distinction and brought honour to the institute and the accountancy profession,” said Raymond Campbell, president, ICAJ, via news release.

A fellow of ICAJ, Peart has served on Council since 2013 and is a member of the Institute’s Future of the Profession Committee.

In 2017, she served as chairman of the highly successful Business Conference Planning Committee.

Through her tireless efforts, a historic memorandum of understanding was signed between ICAJ and the TAJ last November to enable the implementation of changes in tax legislation and the annual filing of tax returns towards greater efficiency for the taxpayer and the TAJ.

CPA Canada International awarded her Fellowship status (FCPA) at a reception held in Jamaica in January 2018. The Fellow (FCPA) designation is one of the highest honours the CPA profession can bestow and distinguishes both the individual and the profession.

She has served on numerous boards and committees and is a past president of the Rotary Club of Kingston. She was elected president of the American Chamber of Commerce of Jamaica in 2017.

Peart began her professional journey with qualifications and a background in the sciences, business and law. She graduated from the University of Toronto in Canada with a major in chemistry, and a minor in commerce, and holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of London.

However, over the years, she was drawn into accountancy and now boasts more than 20 years of public accounting experience with professional services firms serving a wide range of clients, encompassing local, regional, European, United States and Canadian companies.

Peart is a highly sought-after presenter, not only for her expertise but also for her dynamic and engaging presentations, the news release says.

Her other affiliations include registered public accountant, Public Accountancy Board; member of 2004 Matalon Tax Review Committee in Jamaica; member of the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement Jamaica; member of International Women’s Forum (Jamaica Chapter) Executive Committee; member of the Board of Directors of the Mona School of Business at the University of the West Indies; 2015/2016 Rotary District 7020 Chair for Economic and Community Development; and Charter Member of the Rotary Club of Manor Park.
